·         The Martin group congratulates Fred Moore ’09 for his paper A globally optimal nonlinear nonconvex minimum heat transfer area formulation for OTEC power generating systems”, Applied Thermal Energy, Vol. 28 No. 8-9 (2008) 1015-1021.

·         The Martin group congratulates Adam Baughman, David Follansbee, Jessica Hronich ‘08, and Ian Tolle for their successful presentations at the annual AIChE convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.

·         The Martin group congratulates Xinqun Huang ‘08 on passing the SAS base level exam, and his candidacy.

·         The Martin group congratulates Tom Khiel on passing his candidacy. Candidacy on May 21st. The proposal was titled "Systems Biology of Osmotic Shock in Antibody Producing Cell Lines".

·         The Department of Energy awards $450,000 grant for research on enabling nanocomposite characterization through integrated scattering and computational modeling. The work is a collaborative effort between the Akpalu (PI, Chemistry and Chemical Biology) and Martin (co-PI) Research Groups.

·         Prof. Lealon L. Martin receives 2006 MLK Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award from Rensselaer OMSA.

·         The Martin Research Group welcomes Jessica E. Hronich, Ian Tolle, and David Follansbee as new PhD students.

·         DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory awards 300K grant over 3 years for research on "Model Predictive Control of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycles". The work will be a collaborative effort between the research groups of Prof. B. Wayne Bequette (Prinicipal Investigator), Prof. Lealon L. Martin (co-PI), and Prof. Joe Chow (co-PI, ECSE).

·         MRG welcomes Summer ’06 Undergraduate Research Program (URP) participants: Paul Lorenz, David Follansbee, and Julaunica Tigner (Howard Hughes Research Scholar from Tuskegee University)

·         Martin Research Group receives $42,000 grant from the DOE Argonne National Laboratory to investigate alternate thermochemical cycles for hydrogen production with B. Wayne Bequette (co-principal investigator).

·         Martin Research Group congratulates Fred P. Moore (URP) on his recent journal article submission for publication to Applied Thermal Energy entitled A Globally Optimal Nonlinear Nonconvex Minimum Heat Transfer Area Formulation for OTEC.

·         Martin Research Group receives $250,000 DURIP award from the Department of Defense - Army Research Office to develop technology for the screening of photoactive materials on nanoporous supports with Dr. John Paccione, Prof. Howard Littman, and Prof. Joel Plawsky (co-principal investigators)

·         National Science Foundation awards 3-year $405,000 grant for collaborative research between the Martin Research Group and the research laboratory of Prof. Yvonne Akpalu (principal investigator), from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rensselaer, to advance renewable materials through X-ray and light scattering techniques combined with numerical multiscale modeling and analysis.

·         MRG welcomes Adam Baughman (B.S. ChE, Lehigh University). His research will involve the development of a systematic methodology for metabolic pathway optimization in mammalian cells.

·         MRG welcomes Spring ‘06 Undergraduate Research Program (URP) participants: Ryan Andress, Thomas Mwakibinga (ECSE), Sean Perry (ECSE), and Wenjing Guo.
