Since coming to Rensselaer in 1986, Professor Cramer has become a recognized
expert in the fields of Chromatographic Bioprocessing and Separation Science.
He is the co-inventor of low-molar-mass displacer technology for protein
purification, and has developed several mathematical models of protein
chromatography which allow accurate prediction of effluent profiles in
process-scale separations. In addition, Professor Cramer has extensive
experience in membrane separations, enzyme technology, and environmental
separations. He is an active consultant with several biotechnology and
separations companies in the United States and Europe. Professor Cramer
is the editor of the journal Separation Science and Technology (www.dekker.com/servlet/product/productid/SS)
and is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
He has won numerous awards including a Presidential Young Investigator
award from the National Science Foundation, the Early Career Award from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as well as several teaching awards. He
was also one of the co-chairs for the recent Recovery of Biological Products
Meeting (www.recovery10.com).
