The beer brewing process starts with the conversion of grains into usable sugars. Water is added to these converted starchs in order to dissolve the sugars. Hops is added which acts as a presevative as well as imparting a flavor. This solution is boiled, which acts to steralize as well as to dissolve acids in the hops. This solution (wort [pronounced wert]) is cooled, aerated and then introduced to yeast. The yeast convert the sugars in the wort to alcohol, giving off heat and carbon dioxide. After a week of fermentation and several weeks of conditioning, the beer is ready to drink...
