Daily Maintenance

• Soil Sampling
  • Disposable sample vials (40 ml)
  • 5 ml methanol in first
  • Take and inital weight
  • Top off with methylene chloride
  • Tumble overnight
  • GC analysis
  • Frequency taken:
  • 1st week: daily
  • 2nd week: every other day
  • 3rd week and more: twice weekly
  
  
• Biomass Sampling
  • Disposable sample vials (40 ml)
  • 5-10 gram representative soil sample
  • Will plate out
  • Frequency taken D=0,7,14,21...
  
  
• GAC
  • Preparation & setup of GAC columns
  • Empty "used" GAC into disposable sample vial (40 ml)
  • Fill vial with methylene chloride

  • Frequency of run:
    • 1st 3 days: #1 and #2 twice daily
    • 2nd week: #1 every other day, #2 at end of week

• General Start-Up of New Boxes
  • Determine type of soil to be treated
  • Determine chemical additions (nutrients, pH adjustment, etc.)
  • Determine bulking agent addition, if any (sawdust, woodchips, etc.)
  • Mixing soil manually or with Processall
  • Line boxes up with Teflon sheeting
  • Line bottom of boxes with wire mesh and sand
  • Fill boxes with soil
  • Adjust air flow rate(usually between 2500-3500 ccm)
  • Initial sampling
  
  
• Break-down of Treated Boxes
  • Final GC sampling
  • TCLP (soil extracted & specially run on GC)
  • Retain a jarful of treated soil
  • Clean boxes for next use
