Mechanical Screens

Manual Screens

The flow enters the plant through a 36" sewer pipe and proceeds through either a mechanically cleaned screen or a manually cleaned screen. Both screens are 42 inches wide with spacings of 1 in. The mechanical screen (shown in the first picture) consists of a rake and carriage system that cleans the screen every 15 minutes. The timer can be adjusted to accommodate variations in the flow. The mechanical screen can be bypassed by inserting a fly gate into the channel. The flow will then proceed through the manual screen. During the visit both the mechanical and manual screens were operating because there had been a problem reinserting the bypass fly gate. The mechanical screen needed repairs about a year ago and something got jammed into the bypass fly gate slot so that gate can not be closed. This is not a major inconvenience or a huge problem and thus there has been no pressing need to fix the problem. Both screening systems are enclosed.
