Pumps

There are four centrifugal pumps, two each for each of the wet wells. The
pumps were designed so that only two would be required to handle the max.
flow rate of 2.62 MGD. This means that if one well needs repair all the flow
can be diverted to the other wet well and the plant will not suffer any serious
set backs. The pumps are driven by four DC motors. The motors are difficult to maintain and
are set up in such a way that makes servicing them difficult. This becomes
an even more difficult problem because there is only one person in the
Guilderland area that is capable of servicing the motors. The pumps are
capable of handling 3250 gpm under 46 ft TDH. The pumps lift the raw sewage
and discharge it through a 16 in. force main to the head of the primary
clarification tanks.
