Grit Screen and Cyclone Separator
Centrifugal pumps carry the grit from the holding tank at below the center
of the grit chamber to the cyclone separator. The cyclone separator uses
centrifugal force to further dewater the grit. The grit is then passed over the
screen removing most of the additional water content. The grit fall into a
trash barrel and is bagged for disposal at the landfill. Trips are made
about once a week to dispose of any grit remove and rags and unprocessables
that collect on teh screens. The cyclone separator is run about three or four
times per day depending on the amount of grit accumulated. The grit screen
must be cleaned daily to prevent clogs.
