Note that 2 cells become 4, 4 become 8, 8 become 16, 16 become 32, etc. until they crowd the screen. Note the interval until the next division. In a real experiment, there would not be one single organism at the start, and the nutrients might run out before there are very many generations. Remember that cells stop growing when they run out of nutrients.

What is wrong with this depiction ?

  1. When many cells are present, they will not all divide instantaneously.
  2. Details of cell division are missing. A cell begins to neck down before it breaks apart to make two cells.
