Shown is a pilot plant using a motor-driven hypodermic syringe. One minor drawback is low capacity which necessitates frequent refilling. The unit is moderately expensive if purchased, but can be fabricated in the company shops. Shots are added dropwise slowly to give fine control of foam; this method is highly recommended for small fermentors.
