Dechlorination

For some applications, chlorine in water is intolerable. For example, a bacteriology laboratory cannot allow a killing agent in its media. Municipal water must also be dechlorinated if it is to be used in the manufacture of products such as photographic emulsions. Chemicals commonly used for removal of chlorine are those that are easily oxidized; SO, NaHSO, Na SO, and Na S O are examples. Activated carbon is quite good for adsorbing chlorine, and carbon columns are a major option when designing a dechlorination system.
