HYPE (sorry, but needed for perspective)

A strong case for fuel ethanol is on the web as a Google special.

Old hype: This claim from the American Biomass Association is no longer on the internet (http://www.biomass.org/fact_sheet_2.htm):

How much is there?

Biomass is probably the most underutilized renewable resource in the U.S. today.  Biomass currently provides about 4% of the energy produced in the U.S., and it could easily supply 20%.  In other words, due to the available land and agricultural infrastructure this country has, biomass could, sustainably, replace all of the power nuclear plants generate without a major impact on food prices.  Furthermore, biomass used to produce ethanol could reduce our oil imports upwards of 50%!
