TYPES OF SENSORS APPLICABLE FOR FERMENTATION CONTROL:
- pH electrode
- redox electrode
- oxygen electrode
- ammonia electrode
- gas sensors (f.ex. ethanol sensor)
- photocell (turbidity)
- viscosity gauges
- gravity gauges
- biosensors
- a. o.
In addition to the general properties, that sensors must posses, those used in
fermentation control must meet some additional prerequisites:
- sterilizability
- fouling resistancy
- chemical compatibility with the microorganisms
- insensitivity to turbidity and colored media
Only a few sensors satisfy all theses requirements, so that monitoring and control
of industrial processes rely still on a relatively small number of measurements
of state variables.
