Calculation of Power Number
Scale up of mixing uses a correlation of Reynolds number with Power
number defined as:
We perform experiments in small equipment to determine a suitable
Reynolds number. We go to the graph of Power Number versus
Reynolds number, and move up to the line for the type of impeller.
Note that a different impeller may require less power. We then
read off the Power Number. We can sustitute different numbers,
but the main thing to calculate is the power required because
that determines what motor to buy.
