The Center for Future Energy Systems' (CFES) mission is to harness cutting-edge applied research in academia to enable new energy technologies that foster economic development through collaboration and technology transfer with industry.
The vision of CFES is to enable New York State to be a world leader in renewable energy and energy conversion systems and to meet its goal of producing 25% or more of its power generation through renewable energy sources by 2013.
The Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES) is one of 15 Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT) designated by the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR – see below). The Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) program was created in 1983 to promote the transfer of technology from New York State's top research universities to its industries. The goal is to enhance commercially viable product development in the private sector. There are 15 CATs across New York engaged in the support of university/industry collaborative research and technology transfer in a range of technologies. The CATs are funded by the New York State Office of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR).
NYSTAR's mission is to:
Encourage collaboration between NYS academic research institutions and industry
Promote and facilitate the commercial use of the state's academic-based technology and intellectual property
Leverage State resources to attract federal grant support for its research programs
