Energy Storage Technologies


Storage-TechnologiesRechargeable Lithium-ion batteries are integral to today's information-rich, mobile society and are currently one of the most popular types of battery for portable electronics. They are also a major candidate for automotive, defense and aerospace applications. Rensselaer has formed a team to work with other NYS academic and industrial partners in theoretical and experimental design, testing and characterization of electrode materials and liquid Lithium-ion battery technology. The NY Battery and Energy Storage Technology consortium (NY BEST) initiative is an opportunity to conduct world class, industrial relevant research and development to support commercialization of new energy storage technologies. CFES is actively seeking industrial partners for collaborative projects.

Energy Storage:

  • Novel high surface area carbon nanomaterials for hydrogen storage
  • Development of cost-effective, scaleable ferroelectric glass composites
  • Enhancement of electrical energy storage capacity through tailoring electrode/electrolyte interface
  • Development of nanostructured electrodes for Lithium batteries and capacitors
