Advanced Lighting Technologies

CFES is working with researchers from the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center and the Rensselaer Lighting Research Center (LRC) on novel compound semiconductor material development, device technology, and systems applications to further the understanding and proliferation of smart lighting. Lighting is a complex industry in the midst of a critical transition. New technologies such as solid-state lighting present great opportunities to more efficiently use electrical energy and substantially reduce the need for new power plants.

• Development and study of high quality AlN and AlGaN epitaxial films for UV devices.
• Development and study of high refractive index nanomaterial encapsulants Study of nanophosphors for photoluminescence.
• Development of quantum nanocrystals for use in SSL

• GaN wide bandgap thin film growth and devices.
