Announcement:
Professor G. Ramanath of the Materials Science and Engineering Department has been
appointed Director of the Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES), effective May
1, 2008. Ramanath is a nationally and internationally recognized researcher in the
area of nanomaterials and thin films. During his 10 years at
Rensselaer, he has developed a thriving research program
in nanomaterials synthesis, directed
assembly and property measurements for applications
in emerging nanodevice and energy technologies,
published extensively in the best journals, presented regularly at international
conferences and won prestigious awards. He has received significant peer-reviewed
funding from several federal and state agencies and industrial sources, including
the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Semiconductor Research
Corporation,
MARCO-DARPA,
US
-Israel Binational Science Foundation, IBM, Novellus,
Philip Morris USA, Honda Research, and NYSTAR. In addition, he has been active in organizing and participating in cross-continental
scientific exchange programs and visits for the
USA
with
India
,
Japan
and
Australia
.
Professor Ramanath's broad research
and leadership experience will ensure that CFES will continue to develop into a
focused, well-funded, highly recognized, and dynamic energy and energy sustainability
research center. In collaboration with faculty, staff and students from all schools
and departments and in partnership with other institutions, he will build diverse
research programs and solve important problems that derive from practical needs
in the energy industry. These research programs will leverage
Rensselaer
Rensselaer's strengths
in materials, computation, sensors, automation, simulation, and biotechnology.
