Co-op experience for BME majors can be arranged so that you can complete your work assignment without delaying your date of graduation. Usually this requires:
Interviewing during the sophomore year
One summer session at Rensselaer or AP credit upon entering Rensselaer
Taking the senior year in standard fall-spring sequence
Most of the required core engineering courses are offered in the fall, spring, and summer, so a co-op job can usually be tailored to fit your particular needs and interests. Students should take BIOL-4290 Human Physiological System and BMED-4500 Advanced Systems Physiology in the junior year to prepare for the senior year course called BME Lab. If there are unusual circumstances, adjustments can be made.
It is suggested that prospective co-op students discuss timing of co-op assignments and related details with their academic advisor or with Prof. Stan Reisman located in JEC 7048 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. You should also consult with Dr. Reisman for academic planning before going on any assignment. Please review your CAPP report on-line prior to this meeting to identify questions that may arise about planning of courses. Bring your current transcript (obtained at "check in"). The basic core engineering courses are often adequate as background for co-op assignments, but coursework in BME can help if it can be completed prior to the assignment.
