| Career Decision-Making Scenario Use this scenario to help with understanding the steps involved in making good decisions. "I need to declare a major by the end of next semester." Review the college catalog to identify all majors offered. (do not rule out any options at this stage) Talk to upper class students, friends, faculty, and staff in the fields that interest you. Read about career options for different majors. Eliminate alternatives according to your values, interests, personality, and skills. Examples: Value: I need a career with a creative outlet. Interests: I like to work with computers and I enjoy business. Personality: I enjoy working with others in a fast-paced environment. Skills: I am a creative problem-solver with significant leadership experience. Choose a major based on your research and an evaluation of your values, interests, personality and skills. Meet with your advisor to declare your major. Begin taking courses in your new major. How are you doing in your new major? Are you enjoying the courses you are taking?
