Volunteers are needed once again for Rensselaer’s Commencement Exercises to be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 9:30a.m. We need volunteers to greet guests, take tickets, hand out programs, assist with seating and answer questions.
In accordance with Rensselaer policy and Department of Labor guidelines, non-exempt and exempt employees who agree to assist Rensselaer during commencement exercises must be compensated for their time as follows: Non-Exempt employees will receive overtime pay at a rate of time and half for hours beyond a 40 hour work week, a Non-Exempt employee may receive compensatory time at a rate of time and half for hours worked in lieu of paid overtime. Compensatory time must be given in the same pay period the overtime hours are worked. All volunteers MUST obtain approval from their immediate supervisor to insure that the volunteer assignment and/or equivalent time off does not impair the services of the respective work unit. All "overtime" will be paid from the volunteers department. It is recommended that Exempt employees who serve, as commencement volunteers will be given equivalent time at a later date.
If you would like to be a part of Rensselaer's Commencement, please contact Laraine Michaelides 276-8525 (michal) or Barbara Dean 276-6201 (deanb) no later than April 1, 2005.
Thank you! We look forward to making this year's commencement memorable for our students, their families and friends.
