Master of Science in Lighting

The School of Architecture, in association with the Lighting Research Center, offers a Master of Science in Lighting degree to students who complete a 48-credit two-year curriculum. The first year curriculum provides a broad education that cultivates a scientific and artistic understanding of the interactions of all elements of lighting. The third semester offers students opportunities to pursue individual projects under faculty guidance in the Lighting Workshop, and students conclude the program with a leadership seminar and thesis studies. Graduates may enter practice with the intention of seeking leadership roles, or they may continue with further, more specialized, doctoral studies in other Rensselaer schools. The curriculum includes 48 credits of project and course work and normally requires four semesters to complete.
