“NanoBiotech 2008” will highlight cutting-edge R&D and explore commercialization opportunities of nanotechnology, biotechnology and related science and engineering fields. We have organized a multi-disciplinary conference that will offer networking opportunities to researchers from industry, government and academia; engineers; physicians; ethicists; environmental scientists; intellectual property practitioners; lawyers; business professionals; technology transfer specialists, policy makers and venture capitalists.

Welcome to the Rensselaer Department of Biology. We are a broad-based interactive community of faculty, students, and staff whose interests encompass nearly every area of modern biology, including macromolecular structure and function, computational biology and bioinformatics, biochemistry and bioenergetics, nanobiology and biotechnology, cell and developmental biology, genetics of model organism systems, neuroscience, microbiology and host-pathogen interactions, molecular microbial ecology/evolution, synthetic biology, and freshwater ecology. 

Our mission is to achieve excellence in our teaching and training of undergraduate and graduate students, and to provide an environment where each individual can maximize his or her creativity and productivity.

Department Snapshot

It is an exciting time to be in Rensselaer’s Biology Department. With excellent leadership, an outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, bright undergraduate and graduate students eager to explore, and modern facilities, there is no limit to what we may accomplish.

Undergraduates can major in Biology, Biochemistry & Biophysics, Bioinformatics & Molecular Biology, or even enroll in our combined B.S./M.D. program.

Graduate students can earn a Ph.D. in Biology or Biochemistry & Biophysics.

Currently, the department has approximately 300 undergraduate students, 28 graduate students, and 31 faculty members.
