Ruby at the ID Desk Ruby McCarthy runs the Rensselaer Campus Card Center at the Rensselaer Student Union. She makes ID cards for students, faculty, and staff, places RAD deposits into the food system. When the students have questions regarding their student meal plans or debit accounts Ruby is there to help them out.

Ruby is a Sodexho employee and the Campus Card Center and food programs are run by Sodexho. For further information regarding Sodexho see the Sodexho web page. To contact Ruby, you can e-mail her at loverr@rpi.edu or call her at (518) 276-6670.

The Rensselaer ID Station The Photo Imaging System that is used to make the Rensselaer Advantage Card (ID card) is a simple 4-step process. Files of registered students, staff, and faculty are downloaded from our main Simon data base, the file is brought to the screen, a picture is taken, and with a click of a mouse the card is printed. During Student Orientation, pictures are taken, stored, and batched printed at a quieter time.

The high coursivity mag stripe on the back of the card is presently being used for access into the Rensselaer residential facilities, meal plans, debit accounts, vending machines in the JEC, and to check out books at the library. Additionally, it is used as a photo ID at the bookstore, Field House, and many other areas on campus.

If there is a lost card, a duplicate can be made instantaneously while the lost card is shut down and becomes inoperable.

Presently, each Rensselaer Advantage Card that is issued to students has an AT&T calling card number on the back of the card. This is a service that is being provided to the student from AT&T. The student has the opportunity to activate this number by calling the AT&T number on the back of the card and picking their own private pin number. This does not replace the long distance calling service offered by the Rensselaer telecommunications department on campus, which offers the least expensive rates but, is an additional safety feature if you are on the road and need to make an emergency telephone call. All charges for these AT&T calls are billed directly to the address you request and are separate billings from the Rensselaer billing. See Ruby for more details on making this happen.
