The normal process for a student getting added to a WebCT course
is that once a student is registered, the student will be automatically
added to the WebCT course within a day of being added to the college
registration system. Of course, if the instructor has not set up a
WebCT site, then the student will not have a WebCT site for that course.If
you are unable to login to your WebCTcourse, there are 6 possible reasons:
(1)
you are not registered in this course;
-
check the student
information system to see if you are registered
for the course
If you are not registered in a course then
you will not have access to the WebCT course
site.

If you are a RSVP distance
education student, then contact Evelyn Smith (smithe2@rpi.edu)
for login assistance.
(2) the instructor for the course may not have a WebCT course
site.

check the WebCT
course listings to make sure the course has
a WebCT site. Make sure you 'View by Term Fall 2003' and
click 'update'.
(3) you are trying to use an incorrect WebCT user name and
password:
-
for all WebCT student accounts,
-
your WebCT id = your RCS user id
-
your WebCT password = your current RCS password
(4) You may not have changed your RCS password within the
last 9 months or so. If you had an RCS previous to this
semester and have not changed your password in the last 9 months,
then you must go through the process of changing your password so
that your id and password will propagate to the server which authenticates
WebCT users. Go to the Password
change web page and change it: You
can 'change' it to what it currently is if you want to keep the same
password.
After changing your password, be sure to close all
browser windows before attempting to login to WebCT again. This makes
sure the browser isn't still holding the old password. Note:
the password change may take up to an hour before it propagates across
the network.(5) you don't have a valid WebCT global
id.

try logging in with your RCS id and password
if you are unable to login to your 'my WebCT' page then you
don't have a WebCT id yet

If you have an RCS user id and password, then you can
use the WebCT Student Account Utility program to set up your
WebCT global id and password.
Once you have successfuly set up your WebCT account, try logging
in to your 'my
WebCT' page again

If
you successfully login to your 'my WebCT' page, then locate the
course title and click on it. This should take you to the course
home page.
(6) If you can successfully login to your 'my WebCT' page,
but don't see your course listed there, then you have not been added
to that WebCT course yet.

Ask your instructor to add you to the course

Once the instructor has added your WebCT global id (same as
your RCS id) to the course, login to your 'my WebCT' page again.
The course title should now be there. Click on the course title
to access the course home page.

or the course homepage, then email webct-support@rpi.edu for assistance.
