Leaving the Mail System (q, x)

You have two ways to leave the Mail System, each affecting what happens to your messages. After you have read your messages, you can leave Mail with the quit (q) command. This saves all the messages you have read but not deleted in the file mbox, which is located in your home directory. To leave Mail, at the & prompt, enter:
q
You will then return to the UNIX prompt. You can also leave the Mail System and leave all your messages as they were when you entered Mail. This means that all messages will either be marked as unread or new, and that any deleted messages will be undeleted. To do this, enter the exit ( x) command at the & prompt, like this:
x
You will then return to the shell prompt. The next time you go into mail you will see the same messages, and any new ones, listed as incoming mail.
