Replying to Mail Messages (R)(r)
If, after reading a message, you wish to send an immediate reply,
you can do so with the reply (R or r) command.
For a Sun Workstation:
- use an uppercase R to send a reply to the sender
and any other recipients of the original message
- use a lowercase r to send a reply to only the sender
of the original message
For an IBM workstation
- use a lowercase r to send a reply to the sender and
any other recipients of the original message
- use an uppercase R to send a reply to only the sender
of the original message.
For example, if you are using a Sun workstation and
wish to reply to message 1,
then just after you read that message, enter
R
Mail responds with:
and waits for you to type your message.
After you have typed your message, press
Return to send the cursor to a new line.
Then press CTRL-d or a period (.) and Return.
The mail System
will display
EOT
and return you to the mail & prompt.
If you want to reply to a particular message, you can indicate that
message after the r or R. For example, if you were using
a Sun workstation and wanted to reply to message 5, enter
R 5
at the & prompt, and continue as above.
