Mastercam 2017 Installation Instructions

Important:

Before you can install Mastercam 2017 you must have obtained permission from Sam Chiappone (chiaps@rpi.edu, X-8295) and have agreed to the terms of the Mastercam License Agreement. Agreeing to the terms of the Mastercam License Agreement gives you the permission necessary to access the Mastercam 2017 installation files through the network.

Installing Mastercam 2017 on a computer with Windows 10, 8 or 7

If you are OFF campus, the VPN needs to be up and running before attempting to install or run the program!

Installing the application:

  1. On your keyboard, hold down the Windows key and press R, this will open a Run window on your screen.
  2. In the Run window, type in explorer and hit enter, this will open File Explorer.
  3. In File Explorer, enter the following information into the Address bar at the top of the window: \\arc-fs4.win.rpi.edu\software\mastercam\2017\Windows. You may be prompted to enter your RCS UserID. Please type in your RCS UserID preceded by win\ and your RCS password. For example, if the RCS UserID is smithj, then enter win\smithj for the user name.
  4. Double-click on the launcher.exe icon to launch the Mastercam 2017 installer.
  5. Click Yes at the User Account Control message. You might be prompted to enter your RCS UserID. Please type in your RCS UserID preceded by win\ and your RCS password. For example, if the RCS UserID is smithj, then enter win\smithj for the user name.
  6. At the Mastercam 2017 window, select Mastercam Installation.
  7. At the next window, make sure Setup is selected. Under Customize your Mastercam installation make sure only Mastercam 2017 is checked and click Next.
  8. At the next window, click on Configure.
  9. Under Mastercam 2017 Settings, use the following settings:
    • Units: Inch
    • SIM Type: NetHASP
    • User name: your name
    • Company name: Rensselaer
  10. Either accept the default for the Shared Defaults Folder and the Destination Folder or click Change to select different locations and then select Done.
  11. You will be returned to the configuration window, select Next.
  12. At the next window, select Yes, I accept the terms of the license agreement and then click Next.
  13. The installer will run.
  14. At the Setup Complete window, click Exit.
  15. Open the the following folder: \\arc-fs4.win.rpi.edu\software\mastercam\common
  16. Copy the file nethasp.ini into the local folder C:\Program Files\mcam2017. Click Replace when prompted.

Installing the patches:

  1. In File Explorer, open the following folder: \\arc-fs4.win.rpi.edu\software\mastercam\2017\updates
  2. Double-click on mastercam2017-update1-patch.exe to install the patch.
    1. Select Run is prompted by a security warning.
    2. Select Update.
    3. Once the update is complete, click Finish.
  3. From the same network folder, double-click on mastercam2017-update2-patch.exe to install the patch.
    1. Select Run is prompted by a security warning.
    2. Select Update.
    3. Once the update is complete, click Finish.
  4. From the same network folder, double-click on mastercam2017-update3-patch.exe to install the patch.
    1. Select Run is prompted by a security warning.
    2. Select Update.
    3. Once the update is complete, click Finish.
  5. You are now ready to use Mastercam. If you are off-campus, please remember to launch the VPN before launching Mastercam.

I certify that I am a member of the Rensselaer community (student, faculty, or staff) and request use of a Mastercam license for my computer. Access to Mastercam is provided upon condition of my acknowledgement and agreement to the terms and conditions of use as cited below:
