Answering Diagnostic Questions

The doctor relies on you to give him/her as much information about your problem as you can. The following conversation gives examples of diagnostic questions a doctor may ask you.

Doctor:  Where does it hurt?

You:  It hurts in my stomach

Doctor:  What seems to be the matter?

You:  I have a stomachache.

Doctor:  Does it hurt here?

You:  No, lower.

Doctor:  Can you tell me what happened?

You:  I woke up with stomach cramps.

Doctor: How long has this been bothering you?

You: It started yesterday. I thought if I stayed home it would go away.

Other Diagnostic  and Treatment Methods

Doctor:  I'd like to  take a blood test.

Doctor:  I'd like to take an x-ray to see if the bone is broken.

Doctor:  I'm prescribing this medicine.

Other Questions or Comments from  the Doctor

Doctor:  Are you taking any medicine right now?

Doctor:  Are you allergic to any medication?

Doctor:  If you don't feel better in a couple of days, give me a call.
