Personalizing

Send a brief letter or e-mail message to your advisees to introduce yourself or to welcome them back after a semester. Be sure to include your office and e-mail address, your office hours, and telephone number. Add any other information you might feel pertinent such as the name and office of your secretary. (Labels or e-mail addresses may be obtained from Gail Kaiser of the CIS, extension 8281.

Be sure that your office hours are posted for each semester. If you are unable to be in your office during this time, leave a message as to whom the student may see in your absence.

Prepare for meetings with your advisees by familiarizing yourself with his or her file. It is important to address the student by name (preferably their first name) and make them feel welcome.
