Ebola Preparedness at Rensselaer

VISITORS: Proposed visits to the Troy campus by anyone, either from identified countries or who has traveled to, or through, a listed country, are strongly discouraged at this time. Visitors to the Rensselaer campuses are defined as anyone who is not a Rensselaer student, faculty, or staff member.

  • Rensselaer faculty or staff planning a Troy or Hartford campus visit by a person either from the identified countries or who has traveled to, or through, a listed country must contact the Provost and/or the Vice President of Human Resources.
  • Students planning a Troy or Hartford campus visit by a person either from the identified countries or who has traveled to, or through, a listed country must contact the Dean of Students.
  • Before coming onto campus, all such visitors must disclose where they have been and must complete a screening questionnaire that will be provided either by the Rensselaer Medical Director or the Rensselaer occupational physician.

All such visitors must be cleared by a Rensselaer medical professional prior to coming onto campus. Such visitors should contact the Student Health Center at (518) 276-6287.

Located on the Troy, New York campus, Rensselaer’s Admissions Office welcomes visitors year round.

As you plan your visit, check out the Admissions Events page to register for Open Houses and special Visiting Days.

Overnight Visit Program

The overnight visit program  will begin on March 30th and is available to accepted students only.

Two week notice is required to schedule an overnight visit; requests with less than two week notice cannot be honored. Overnight stays with current Rensselaer student hosts are available Monday through Thursday nights only, no exceptions. Rensselaer student hosts will answer questions and provide a glimpse of what life at Rensselaer is all about. During your visit, you will visit classes with your host and attend other events on campus if available and your host’s schedule permits.

To schedule an overnight visit, use the Campus Visit—Questions or Comments form  and check the “Overnight Visit” box. Overnight visits may be scheduled April 6th through April 30th. Please note that there are no classes on Wednesday, April 15th. You will receive an email with further details once your overnight host has been confirmed.

We recommend that visitors bring a sleeping bag,  a pillow, and toiletries. Also, visitors should bring spending money for all meals during your visit (meals are not provided during overnight stays). For more information please call the Admissions Office at (518) 276-6216.

Architecture Visitors

Please contact Lecia O’Dell in the School of Architecture, or schedule a visit online.

We strongly recommend a visit to the Rensselaer School of Architecture to meet with one of their faculty and visit their studios. Because Architecture does not have classes during the summer, they have a limited number of faculty available to meet with you during the months of June, July, and August. The best time to visit is during one of the regular academic semesters, September through December or mid-January through mid-May. The School of Architecture does not schedule Friday appointments.

Weekend Office Hours

Rensselaer welcomes visitors on Saturdays, excluding the months of December through February.

Please note Rensselaer students do not have weekend classes; therefore, access to academic buildings and laboratories can be limited on weekends.

Weekend student-led walking tours highlight the main academic campus and freshman residence halls.
