To confirm your intent to enroll in graduate study at Rensselaer, please complete the Confirmation Form for Admitted Students. Please note that you may have items on your Graduate Enrollment Checklist that need to be satisfied before we can confirm your enrollment. We will confirm you as a student once you meet the requirements for the I-20 or DS-2019.
Important Information for All New Graduate Students
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is a signatory to the Council on Graduate Studies Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants. If you are awarded funding from Rensselaer, you will need to make your enrollment decision by the deadline on your award letter.
However, we encourage you to confirm your intent to enroll the moment you decide to attend Rensselaer. You are not required to wait until the deadline on your award letter. Should you receive a financial aid offer from Rensselaer immediately before or after April 15, you will be given a date by which you must accept or decline the offer.
We do not require an enrollment deposit; (except Lally School of Management master’s degree programs); however, you must complete the Confirmation Form for Admitted Students if you wish to enroll in a graduate program at Rensselaer. Students receiving Assistantships, Fellowships or Scholarships must also sign and return their award letters to receive funding.
All new graduate students (matriculated and non-matriculated/non-degree) are required to attend student orientation.
Visit the Office of Graduate Education site for details on orientation and teaching assistant training details for new graduate students, new teaching assistants, and current students awarded a teaching assistantship for the first time.
Fall entrants will be invited to a general orientation in August; if you are a spring entrant, you will be invited to a January orientation. Additional details will be provided.
Many departments/schools offer additional orientation activities. Please contact your department directly regarding your expected arrival date. If you are enrolling for the summer term, orientation will be offered by your department.
Submit Required Documents
Along with the offer of admission you will receive the Graduate Enrollment Checklist which lists any required conditions to complete the admissions process. All international students must provide the following documents in order to receive their Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019) from Rensselaer:
US government regulations require that in order to qualify for non-immigrant student status, you must prove the availability of sufficient funding to meet your expenses. We require that Master’s students demonstrate funding for at least one year and that PhD students demonstrate funding for at least two years. Student should have a reasonable expectation that the same level of support will be available in subsequent years. Therefore, you should consider how you will fund your studies for the entire length of your program.

Document Your Financial Support
To demonstrate each source of your financial support, follow the instructions below. Provide official translation of documents not originally in English. Supporting financial documents must be:
Real estate, stock, securities statements, or statements concerning the financial worth of the businesses are not acceptable, because of the fluctuation in their value and the possible limitation on conversion to cash.
Salary statements, salary deposit notices, or monthly/quarterly/semi-annual bank statements are not acceptable since we are unable to determine the exact amount of money that is available for your educational expenses. We will not accept life insurance policies or retirement accounts as proof of funding.
Notarized statements are not required.
Failure to provide the information or supporting documentation required by GAO will result in a delay in processing your I-20 or DS-2019 and in some cases we will not be able to issue the I-20 or DS-2019 altogether.
Students who are currently attending a U.S. institution and require the transfer of a SEVIS record should complete the steps noted above and submit a completed International Student Transfer Form. The form has sections for the student and the International Student Advisor to complete. We will issue your I-20 or DS-2019 shortly after the date you are released from your current institution.
