Advanced Placement (AP) Credit
Credit is granted to many entering freshmen through Advanced Placement (AP) exams at high schools or satisfactory completion of selected college courses. In general, if you earn a score of 4 or 5 on the AP exam, you’ll be granted academic credit at Rensselaer. You’ll need to submit test score reports or college transcripts to our Registrar's Office before registering for classes.
College Course Credit
Courses completed at other colleges may be considered for transfer credit at Rensselaer. The Registrar will have courses evaluated by the appropriate departments on campus. Students must submit an official transcript of their grade(s) from the other college(s) to the Office of the Registrar when they complete the course(s). Students must also include photocopies of course descriptions of all the courses for which they are requesting transfer credit consideration.
For complete information, please refer to Rensselaer’s Advanced Standing and Advanced Placement policy (PDF).
International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit
Rensselaer regards the International Baccalaureate (IB) program as a rigorous advanced program of study, and you’ll be pleased to find similar opportunities in our interdisciplinary courses and majors, and undergraduate research opportunities. Students may be granted advanced standing or credits for the International Baccalaureate Higher Level.
