Software Licensing

ACS maintains a service to coordinate software licensing on campus. If you have questions regarding a software license, contact Jeff Burdyl, Software License Coordinator, by phone at extension 8187 or by e-mail at burdyj@rpi.edu. He administers Rensselaer's collection of campus-wide site licenses, and can arrange for additional campuswide or departmental licenses as the need arises. He also acts as a campus resource person for questions concerning license usage or extensions.

The Software License Coordinator can answer such questions as:

• Does Rensselaer have a campuswide license for a particular software package and, if so, how can I obtain authorization to use it?
• How can my department obtain a software package for use on a network or multiple machines, and how can I obtain help in procuring a license for its use?
• Does the license my department has for a particular software application allow us to add machines and users?

Campus Software Tools (CST) is an on-line database that provides you with a resource to find out about the essential features of Rensselaer's collection of campuswide software licenses and related software resources. The CST database is accessible through InfoTrax under the CAMpus menu as CST.

ACS can maximize software resources at Rensselaer by purchasing site licenses that have inter-departmental benefit. If you know of a software product that has generated interest across departments, please contact the Software License Coordinator.
