Network Operations Center (NOC)

ACS staff oversee the Network Operations Center (NOC), a problem-reporting center which is available 24 hours a day during the school year. Whether you call extension 7777 (if your problem is urgent) or send electronic mail to repair@rpi.edu, this is where your problem will be handled. The NOC can handle a wide range of problems including, but not limited to, a malfunctioning workstation or terminal, a maintenance problem in a computer lab, or difficulty with the IBX phone system. The staff of the NOC will either provide you with the help you need or forward the problem to someone who can.

The NOC also keeps a record of all problems so that answers can be given quickly to repeated questions and recurring problems can be addressed. In addition, the NOC is responsible for monitoring the campus network and preventing problems before they can occur. They use a number of network tools, including SNMP (Simple Network Monitoring Protocol) to aid them in this task.
