In order to provide students with increased access to computing resources, a new PC-based campus computing lab is being installed on the north side of Folsom Library's main floor, with an anticipated completion date of mid-March of this year.
The result of a Rensselaer Strategic Initiatives grant, with additional support from Computing and Information Services, the new lab's primary purpose is to provide public access for general computing, recognizing that many other labs on campus are heavily booked for classes. Although the lab will also be used in conjunction with instructional programs offered by the Libraries and Academic Computing Services, we do not expect these programs to conflict with peak periods of public use.
Initially, the machines in the new lab will include software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and Adobe Acrobat Reader, as well as popular Internet tools such as Netscape Navigator Gold 3.01, Telnet, and FTP. You may send suggestions for additional software applications to Abbie Basile, Folsom Library, at basila@rpi.edu.
