News Cache, a publication of Rensselaer's Information Technology Services, is published three times a semester, for a total of six issues during the school year.
We have created this new News Cache section in RPInfo to act as a supplement to the paper copies of the newsletter, so be sure to check back here on a regular basis to remain informed of all the latest ITS-related information. In addition, check ITS' What's New section in RPInfo for the most up-to-the-minute information.
May 1, 1996: This issue contains articles regarding holiday and summer hours for CIS' computing labs, recent staff changes, reminders about summer printing and reducing your disk space, working with bookmarks in Netscape 2.0, writing a thesis using LaTeX2e, the Libraries' upcoming new information system to replace infoTrax, summer short courses, and more!
March 6, 1996: This issue contains articles describing CIS' recent reorganization, the latest duration limit set on Xyplex dial-ins, the replacement for the ES/9000 mainframe, and the new EZ-Backup service, as well as information on Rensselaer's new object-oriented technology lab, Spring Break schedules, a number of end-of-semester account-related reminders, and more!
January 17, 1996: This issue contains articles regarding ITS' new Help Desk, the relocation of the print racks, and printing allocations for the Spring 1996 semester, as well as information on the latest software updates and upgrades, the permchk permissions verification program on RCS, staff news, the Presidents' Day lab and consulting schedules, short course announcements, and more!
December 6, 1995: This issue contains holiday lab and consulting hours, an important message from the RCS Postmaster, information regarding the new look the VCC Help Desk will have by next semester, updates on some ITS quick studies and memos, hints on how to use the LaTeX and FrameMaker resume templates available on RCS, information on some upcoming ITS short courses, and more!
October 11, 1995: This issue includes articles on the retirement of ITS Director Robert Gallagher, Xyplex, mail, and RPInfo service updates, Thanksgiving computing hours, information on using the Eudora electronic mail package, recent changes made to the RCS background menu, RPInfo-related information, and much more.
August 23, 1995: This issue includes the latest in RPInfo-related information, an article on Rensselaer's pilot notebook computer lab, a printing charges update, introductory course information, fall lab hours, and much more.
May 3, 1995: This issue includes articles on how alumni can now rent extra disk space, a final warning on the MTS shutdown, what constitutes misuse of computing resources -- including acts that have led to legal action at RPI, why workstations are missing from labs, that the Calcomp plotter is scheduled for shutdown, summer and holiday hours, and more.
March 8, 1995: This issue includes articles on how to obtain alumni computer accounts, a new WWW home page utility for students, Spring Break hours, a number of printing-related issues, a reminder concerning the end of MTS service on June 30 of this year, and much more.
January 18, 1995: This issue includes articles on voice mail for faculty and staff, printer allocations for any RCS account holders, a new RPInfo kiosk, getting your group into RPInfo, the new ITS Help Desk, and more.
December 7, 1994: This issue includes articles on ITS lab and consulting holiday hours, new NYSERNet service, requesting RCS disk quota online, server upgrades and updates, and much more!
October 12,1994: This issue includes articles on a new computer lab in the Sage building, longer VCC hours, renting RCS disk space, a new moderated Usenet group for campus announcements, the new double-sided PostScript printer, and more.
August 24, 1994: This issue includes articles on the new format and approach of News Cache, software upgrades, short course information, computing hours, and much more.
