Version 2.5 of the xpp modeling program for analyzing and understanding the behavior of physical systems that change over time (such as dynamic systems) is now available on all RCS platforms.
xpp can handle:
xpp also includes a Web-based tutorial that gives you a simple introduction to dynamic systems and how to use xpp to simulate and numerically solve the equations.
To use xpp, enter the following command from a UNIX prompt:
xpp myfile.ode
where myfile.ode contains a description of the system you want to solve.
New users should work through the Web-based tutorial for more help. To use the tutorial, create a file named $HOME/.mailcap containing this line:
text/xpp; xpp %s >/dev/nulland then create a file named $HOME/.mime.types containing the lines
text/xpp ode text/xpp dif
To view the tutorial, start RPInfo, pull down the File menu and select the Open File... option. In the Selection field of the File Open window which should appear, enter:
/campus/math/xpp/2.5/common/html/index.html
To obtain a hardcopy of the xpp documentation, print the file /campus/math/xpp/2.5/common/doc/xpp_doc.ps.
If you have any further questions about using xpp, please contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk locations, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu.
