Version 3.12 of xlock, a terminal-locking utility with screensaver capabilities, is now available for use on all RCS computers, with the exception of those running SunOS.
xlock allows a user to lock a RCS computer and safely leave it unattended for short periods of time without having to exit the current session. Once started, xlock will act as a screensaver and will also prevent any use of the terminal until it is unlocked by the current user.
This version of xlock has been modified to prevent RCS workstations from being locked for long periods of time. After twenty minutes of being locked, a button will appear on the locked screen which, when chosen, allows anyone to logout the current user/session. In addition, after an hour of being locked, xlock will automatically logout the current user/session.
To run xlock 3.12, enter the following commands from a UNIX prompt:
setup xlock-new
xlock &
xlock includes roughly 50 different screensavers. If run with no command
line options, xlock will default to a random screensaver.
For help in using xlock, use the command line option --help.
xlock 3.12 will become the system default on Wednesday, January 29, and you will no longer have to set it up.
