Version 5.1 of the MATLAB numerical analysis package is now available on the RCS IBM AIX 4.2, SGI, and Sun Solaris platforms. (MATLAB Version 5.0 will be the default on the remaining UNIX platforms.)
The newest version includes new scatter plot functions (scatter, scatter3) to allow users to create scatter plots, and various minor bugs have been fixed.
To use the new version of MATLAB, enter the following commands in a UNIX window:
setup matlab-new

MATLAB 5.1 will become the default on the RCS IBM AIX 4.2, SGI, and Sun Solaris platforms on Tuesday, August 11, and you will no longer have to set it up. You will still be able to access the current version of MATLAB, MATLAB 5.0, on these platforms until Friday, September 11, by entering the command setup matlab-old from a UNIX prompt before running the program.
MATLAB 5.0 will remain the default version on those platforms that do not support MATLAB 5.1.
If you have any further questions about using MATLAB, please contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu.
MATLAB Version 10 (5.2) is available on the Windows PC platform.
