New Version of MacSyma on RCS

New Version of MacSyma, a Symbolic Algebraic Manipulation Package, on RCS

MacSyma Version 419 is now available on RCS. MacSyma is a symbolic algebraic manipulation package including commands to factor, expand, differentiate, integrate, substitute, and simplify algebraic expressions. It can also produce 2-D and 3-D graphs. This version provides a full screen editor window and pull down menus for entering MacSyma statements.

To use MacSyma, enter the following commands:

setup macsyma-new
macsyma &
MacSyma 419 will become the default on Thursday, June 29, but to use it you have to set it up:
setup macsyma
macsyma &
The current version of MacSyma will remain available for a short time if you setup macsyma-old.

To get started with MacSyma, click on Primer under the Help menu. Over 200 executable demonstrations are available if you click on 'Demo a Feature' under the Help menu. Then, click on one of the topic areas to see the list of demos for a particular topic area, and then click on the demo name to start the actual demonstration.

On the IBM machines, MacSyma may produce errors similar to the following which may be ignored:

     _aixXLoadIM : IM Load Error [C]
      _aixXLoadIM returns NULL
