Version 6.1 of Abaqus, a finite element solver that interfaces with other solid modelers, is now available on the IBM and SGI UNIX workstations.
The principal features of Version 6.1 include:
ABAQUS Version 6.1 includes architectural changes that make its file structure different from that of ABAQUS Version 5.8. One consequence of this is that the files used by the code are not identical.
The abaqus 58to61 utility is included with ABAQUS Version 6.1 to translate existing input files (written for Version 5.8 of ABAQUS) to the new ABAQUS Version 6.1 format. As with other abaqus utilities, abaqus 58to61 is invoked through the ABAQUS execution procedure.
ABAQUS environment file parameters have changed from Version 5.8 to Version 6.1. The abaqus convertenv utility is included with Version 6.1 to translate existing environment files (written for Version 5.8 of ABAQUS) to the new Version 6.1 format.
To run the new version of Abaqus, enter the following commands at a UNIX prompt:
setup abaqus-new
abaqus &
Release 6.1 of Abaqus will become the default on Monday, May 14, and you will no longer have to set it up. You will still be able to access the current version of Abaqus, Release 5.8-16, until Monday, September 10, by entering the command setup abaqus-old from a UNIX prompt before running the program.
If you have any further questions about using Abaqus, please contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu.
