Abaqus 5.8 Available on IBM RCS Workstations

Version 5.8 of Abaqus, a finite element solver that interfaces with other solid modelers, is now available on the IBM RCS workstations.

The principal features of Version 5.8 include:

• Significant enhancements to the functionality of all current ABAQUS products

• Two new products: ABAQUS/Design, which allows input files to be parameterized, and ABAQUS/Viewer, a new interactive, graphical postprocessor

Users should note that ABAQUS/Standard restart files are compatible between Version 5.7 and Version 5.8 for most analysis types, and superelement library files are also compatible between Version 5.7 and Version 5.8

To run the new version of Abaqus, enter the following commands at a UNIX prompt:

	setup abaqus-new
        abaqus &

Release 5.8 of Abaqus will become the default on the IBM workstations on Monday, May 17, and you will no longer have to set it up. You will still be able to access the current version of Abaqus, Release 5.7, until Friday, August 13, by entering the command setup abaqus-old from a UNIX prompt before running the program.
