WordPerfect 7.0 Now Available on AIX and Solaris Platforms

Version 7.0 of the WordPerfect document processing package is now available in "new" mode on RCS on AIX and Solaris workstations, and will remain there for several months before becoming the default on the AIX and Solaris platforms.

To use the new version of WordPerfect, issue the following commands in a UNIX window:

   setup wordperfect-new
   xwp &

WordPerfect 7.0 includes a number of enhancements from the previous version, including better conversion between file types, database import for Oracle, unlimited undo/redo functionality, spell-as-you-go, and pagenumbering in the format "x of y".

WordPerfect 7.0 will become the default on Wednesday, January 7, 1998, and you will no longer have to set it up. After that date, SGI users, and any AIX and Solaris users who wish to do so, will still be able to access the current version of WordPerfect, Version 6.0, by entering the command setup wordperfect-old at a UNIX prompt before running the program.

Unfortunately, Corel is not planning to provide WordPerfect 7.0 for SGI workstations, so SGI users must continue to use version 6 in the SGI labs. However, it is possible to open version 7 documents in version 6 of WordPerfect.

If you have any questions or problems about using WordPerfect, please contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk locations, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu. WordPerfect 7.0 also provides extensive on-line help; to access it, left-click on the Help menu option from the program's main menubar.
