Pro/ENGINEER 20.0 Now Available on RCS UNIX Platforms

Version 20.0 of Pro/ENGINEER, a powerful computer-aided engineering package used to create three-dimensional solid models of parts from two-dimensional sketches, is now available on all RCS UNIX platforms.

The key feature of this newest version is its new user interface. The interface has the familiar window appearance, with a new menu bar that includes all top-level commands, but now includes a customizable tool bar, and consolidated dialog boxes, with the number of menu picks for commonly-used commands reduced by approximately 50 percent.

A second important feature is the Intent manager, which is an intelligent sketcher that provides immediate visible feedback to the user during sketching.

Users can find more detailed information on all the enhancements and tools provided with this release in the chapter "What's new" in Pro/ENGINEER's on-line books of Pro/HELP, a comprehensive knowledge base of more than 400MB consisting of HTML files, search tools, print tools and PostScript files for PTC products such as Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/MECHANICA, and others.

Accessing Pro/ENGINEER 20.0

To access the new version of Pro/ENGINEER from an RCS UNIX workstation, enter the following commands from a UNIX prompt:

	setup pro-new
	pro &

To access the program on the Windows NT workstations, just double-click the proe20 icon on the desktop.

Accessing Pro/HELP

You can access Pro/HELP by selecting pulling down the HELP menu in the main Pro/ENGINEER window and selecting the Pro/HELP option, or you can enter the command prohelp from a UNIX prompt.

In addition, users can display help for individual commands by clicking on the commands in Pro/ENGINEER with the right mouse button.

To print Pro/HELP documentation, select PRINT from the Browser or select the PRINT_DOCUMENTATION option from the Pro/ENGINEER HELP menu.

Printing / Plotting Files

To print both shaded and non-shaded images of a model on all platforms, pull down the File menu and select the Print... option.

A Few Reminders to Users

Pro/ENGINEER files are not backward compatible. That is, you can access V18.0 files from V20.0, but not the other way around. Therefore, once you have moved a part, drawing, or other file to Version 20.0, you won't be able to access it again in Version 18.0.

Pro/ENGINEER Release 20.0 will become the system default on Tuesday, January 5, 1999, and you will no longer have to set it up. After that date, you may access the package either via the RCS Applications menu, or you can issue the following command from a UNIX prompt:

     	pro &

The latest version of Pro/ENGINEER will be available on the Windows NT workstations in the VCC North and Sage 3101 labs by Friday, January 8, 1999.

You will still be able to access the current version of Pro/ENGINEER, Version 18.0, by entering the command setup proengineer-old at a UNIX prompt before running the program. This version will be removed from the system on Wednesday, March 10, 1999.
