LabVIEW Software Available

This fall, as part of a partnership agreement with National Instruments, Rensselaer received a very generous offer of a campus license for LabVIEW, the industry-standard graphical programming environment used for measurement and automation. Used by a wide variety of organizations, such as Kodak, Ford, Motorola, and NASA, LabVIEW is also used in a variety of engineering and science courses here at Rensselaer. (Rensslaer alumnus Jeff Kodosky invented the LabVIEW program and founded National Instruments.)

Under the three-year campus license, any Rensselaer student can obtain a free CD containing LabVIEW, HiQ, G-Math, and an Internet developer toolkit, and so far over 1,000 students have received their copy of the software. To pick up your copy, just stop by the VCC Help Desk; you will need to bring your Rensselaer ID card. Faculty who are interested in trying LabVIEW may also pick up a copy at the Help Desk.

Those faculty members who are already familiar with LabVIEW and would like to develop modules for use in their courses will need the program's Full Development System. Interested faculty should contact Mark Miller by phoning ext. 2751, or by directing e-mail to millem@rpi.edu.
