IRIS Explorer Now Default on RCS

IRIS Explorer, the modular visualization program originally developed by Silicon Graphics for their workstations, is now the default on RCS.

IRIS Explorer allows users to create their own applications interactively by connecting modules together using a point-and-click interface, and includes about 150 modules (more are available) which perform tasks such as:

Users may build a number of modules using Silicon Graphics' ImageVision library, and take advantage of the program's image processing functionality.

Users can also create their own modules to read or translate data using a point-and-click tool called the DataScribe, or use the Module Builder -- another tool bundled with the system -- to transforom your existing routines (in the form of C, C++ or FORTRAN source, or even as pure executables) into modules for use from within IRIS Explorer. Finally, IRIS Explorer provides the application developer with the ability to customise the look and feel of the application before handing it over to the end-user.

If you have any questions about using IRIS Explorer, contact Tom Citriniti at ext. 2606, or direct electronic mail to citrit@rpi.edu.
