By default, every Rensselaer user receives an allotment of disk space in their RCS account free-of-charge, with students previously receiving a default quota of 5MB, and faculty/staff receiving 10MB.
CIS is now happy to announce that, as of October 1, the default disk quota for all users -- students, staff, and faculty alike -- was increased to 25MB. (To check your quota, enter the command fs lq from a UNIX prompt.) Those users who had previously increased their personal RCS disk quota should note that they will now be billed for only the amount above the new 25MB default quota.
And if you're a freshman or other new RCS user, you should note that you can use sambasrv to copy files from your laptop or PC to your RCS space, and thereby use this increased disk quota as additional storage space. Especially keep in mind the private directory, which cannot be read by anyone other than yourself, and the public directory, in which you can place any files you wish to share with other users, such as for a class group project, etc.
If you have any questions about your RCS disk quota, please contact the ACS Help Desk locations by stopping by the VCC or CII 3111, phoning ext. 7777, or by directing e-mail to consult@rpi.edu. More information is also available at the following URL:
