As of November 26, the machine rpi.edu, which once provided the RCS finger command service, was shut down. The service now exists on the machine finger.rpi.edu.
As a result of this change, any users who run the UNIX finger command, or who use finger as their directory service in Eudora or other programs, should change their server name from rpi.edu to finger.rpi.edu. The information returned will be the same as that returned by the ph command.
The new finger command is
finger name@finger.rpi.edu
Please note that, in the above command, name is the person's last name, and not their RCS userid. Results from this command will list all individuals on campus -- faculty, staff, and students alike -- having the specified last name.
For additional help in using the finger command, refer to the man page on RCS by entering the command man finger at a UNIX prompt.
If you have any further questions about using the finger command, please contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu.
