Researchers can now search Chemical Abstracts through their SciFinder Scholar client 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Until now, access was limited to off-peak hours, such as Mondays through Thursdays, from 5:00pm to 5:00am, and Saturdays.) And while a limit does still apply for two concurrent users, the increased number of available hours should mean a decrease in the number of times that a user is "turned away."
In order to search Chemical Abstracts via SciFinder Scholar, you must first download iand install the SciFinder search interface client. For instructions on how to do this, and how to use the software, check out the SciFinder 2000 on-line guide at the URL:

Via OCLC FirstSearch, the Libraries still offer unlimited access to Chemical Abstracts Student Edition (CA Student Ed), an abridged version of the larger ChemAbs database. Covering only 250 of the most popular and heavily used academic journals in the field and aimed at undergraduate students, CA Student Ed includes the benefits of links to journal holdings in the on-line catalog and links to on-line full text of articles in electronic journals.
