EZ-Snapshot: Sign Up or Renew by October 31

Many members of the campus community are taking advantage of the EZ-Snapshot backup service, which provides file saving and restoring capabilities for individuals' and departments' campus desktop computers, laptops, and CUSSP UNIX systems. New student laptop systems are pre-installed with the EZ-Snapshot client software, TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager).

Anyone who has been registered for EZ-Snapshot is automatically re-registered for the service simply by continuing to use EZ-Snapshot. The registration period runs from September 1 through August 31 annually.

Individual EZ-Snapshot users are provided, free-of-charge, an initial allocation of 8,000MB of storage on the EZ-Snapshot server. After a user exceeds 8,000MB of storage, they are billed a $25 fee for each additional 2GB allocation. Each time that a client is billed, his/her allocation is increased for the remainder of the EZ-Snapshot registration period.

EZ-Snapshot users may have collected backup files for disks and file systems which are no longer needed. These users should be aware that such unnecessary backup files contribute to the total storage usage on the server, and can therefore cause users to exceed their initial storage allocation.

An EZ-Snapshot grace period runs from September 1 until October 31. No billing will occur during this grace period. The grace period can be used to review your EZ-Snapshot usage, and request that the backup files for some, or all, of your disks and filesystems be removed from the server.

All EZ-Snapshot individual users and departmental coordinators have been sent e-mail, with details of their EZ-Snapshot storage usage. EZ-Snapshot users are encouraged to review their storage usage, and request that any unnecessary backup files be removed from the server. Requests to remove backup files can be made by sending e-mail to ezsnap-support@rpi.edu.

Please note that EZ-Snapshot support personnel can only delete backup files for entire disks or file systems only. Requests to remove backup files from specific folders or directories can not be processed.

Remember that you only have until October 31 to reduce your EZ-Snapshot storage usage. Individual EZ-Snapshot registrations will be billed in early November, if storage usage exceeds 8,000MB.
